The River Current

The arts are an integral part of River School’s mission to nurture the WHOLE person – one who is self-assured, responsible, and a positive contributor to the community – all of which leads to academic success.  Middle school is a crucial time in the development of a student’s unique identity and the arts encourage this growth through the creative process embedded in our courses of Chorus, Band, Visual Arts, World Percussion, and Drama. Here below are River students demonstrating at our December Performing Arts Night how the arts encourage  their creative spirit and enthusiasm for life!

Visual Arts of River

The arts are an important part of River's program that nurtures the creativity and self-expression of each student's uniqueness.  The series of student work displayed here highlights this creativity and unique self-expression.  Enjoy!

On September 25, River School had its first Tomato Festival.  Students from every advisory worked with teachers to celebrate the harvest of our school and local gardens.  There was a salsa recipe competition with 8 different student/parent -made salsas and chips.  Everyone voted for their favorite and Ryan Olson in Mr. Mettler's advisory won the most votes.  There was also music (including salsa!), dancing, tomato-themed games, local olive oil tasting and face painting.  A good time was had by all.  This would not have been possible without the help of a great group of students and parents.  Thanks to everyone!  Our next food/community event - perhaps a pumpkin festival?
